LONG FACE * Yes - flat. Yes - low smooth rounded. No - sharp or high angles. Flat brows direct the eye side to side, adding width & shape to the long face. The view of the face will usually stop at the top of the eyebrows,so a flatter eyebrow will make the face appear shorter. High angled eyebrows and sharp arches will make the eyes travel up the face higher, which lengthens the face.

SQUARE FACE * Yes - Sharp arch. Yes - Smooth arch. No - Flat. Defined peaks in the arch draw attention to the eyebrow and away from the square jaw. A strong brow is needed to counteract a square face. Flat eyebrows contribute to the boxy look.

HEART FACE * Yes - Smooth rounded arch. No - Sharp arch. No - Flat. Soft rounding of the eyebrow arch counteracts the sharp angle of the chin. Flat eyebrows widen the upper face, making it look even more triangular

ROUND FACE * Yes - Angled arches. No - Flat. No - Rounded. Angled eyebrow lines counteract facial roundness. Up & down lines elongate the face. Defined peaks draw attention to the center of the face. Keep the tail a tad shorter than usual. Flat eyebrows direct the eyes side to side, making the face appear shorter and wider.

OVAL FACE * Yes - sharp angled arch. Yes - smooth rounded arch. Yes - flat. The oval face is considered balanced, and works well with about any eyebrow style.

DIAMOND FACE * Yes - Smooth arch. Yes - Sharp arch. No - Flat. A defined peak in the eyebrow draws attention away from the wide midface. Flat brows direct the eye side to side making the width more noticeable.

The principles behind particular eyebrow shapes for different face shapes are really quite simple. To achieve harmony, we incorporate five principles of art and design:

1) Proportion - the appreciation of line and scale to give the illusion of better proportions  of facial shape and features.

2) Balance - the observance of equilibrium to balance the face.

3) Emphasis - making the brow a focal point to detract attention from other features.

4) Rhythm - the flow and movement of brow lines to create harmony in relation to facial structure.

5) Unity - the coordination of smooth lines and sharp angles to unite all aspects for a total look as a whole.
